We currently have an exciting opportunity to bring onboard a Network Engineer to join Royal London Group on a permanent basis in Edinburgh.

 

Role Purpose

The main purpose of this role is to provide technical administration support for all Hardware and Software across the group focussing on networking technologies e.g., proxy servers, monitoring tools, firewalls, routers & switches and load balancers.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Identifying and resolving network problems following agreed procedures
  • Operational systems management - Ensuring systems are managed to the satisfaction of the business whilst managing incidents through to resolution
  • Technical support and Network maintenance whilst enhancing services through innovation
  • Supporting managed Disaster Recovery tests whilst documenting processes
  • Using network management software and tools to investigate and diagnose network problems, collect performance statistics and create reports, working with users, other staff and suppliers as appropriate.
  • Providing Technical support - Following industry best practice wherever possible
  • Maintains the network support process and checking that all requests for support are dealt with according to agreed procedures
  • Pro-active network management via monitoring tool (HP NOM)

 

Essential Criteria

  • CCNA/CCNP or relevant experience
  • Strong understanding of networking principles. (OSI, TCP/IP, Ethernet)
  • Strong Working knowledge of some of the following: Network Security (Firewalls – Ideally Checkpoint), load-balancers (ideally F5), Network Monitoring Tools (ideally HP NOM or equivalent), Proxy servers (MacAfee)
  • Strong working knowledge of Layer 2 Protocols e.g., STP/VPC and Layer 3 routing protocols (EIGRP, BGP)
  • Strong working knowledge of VPN, including creating and troubleshooting
  • Knowledge of backup and recovery tools and procedures
  • Willing to work out of hours when required (network upgrades, changes, on-call)
  • Excellent team working skills and the ability to work with minimum supervision - Able to plan and prioritise own work and deliverables.
  • Able to deal effectively with the customer to deliver a professional service.
  • Excellent problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Experience of working under SLA’s with ITIL driven processes.
  • Vulnerability management (researching CVE’s, patching network devices, best practices)

 

Desirable Criteria

  • Maintaining an up-to-date industry knowledge of IT systems/Technology,
  • Working knowledge of VOIP (SIP)
  • Knowledge of VMware & VMware View
  • Knowledge of Unix & storage technologies
  • Knowledge of monitoring capacity and performance
  • Knowledge of the automation of systems and process
  • Understanding or working knowledge of (Azure) Cloud based solutions and offerings as the business is transitioning to this
  • Technology ownership (fully understanding product roadmaps)
