About the role

As a Data Engineer Chapter Lead you will be accountable leading the Engineering competence within the Data Solutions team, and responsible for thought leadership in platform and feature Engineering more broadly across the Group. You will set the quality standards and guidelines for Data Engineering across the group all with the goal of leveraging our significant data assets to generate commercial return.

 

You will lead a team of skilled Data Engineers and will manage the team resource allocation to projects, talent development, and provide an environment within which Data Analytics can thrive.

Key responsibilities

  • Leading a team of 7-10 Data Engineering professionals at various levels
  • Provide thought leadership across the group on best practice
  • Own the Data Engineering capability within the Data Solutions function
  • Drive the creation of a data marketplace for Royal London, to house our data products and data assets, making them available for use across the group

 

Criteria

  • Expert understanding of data and feature engineering principles and best practice
  • Experience of mentoring and coaching more junior team members
  • Good understanding of cloud data engineering technologies including: Spark, Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Azure Devops
  • Deep understanding of Microsoft SQL Server technologies, such as T-SQL and SSIS.
  • Experience of a number of other programming languages, such as the C family, Java, Scala, Julia etc.
  • Expertise in the area of data Engineering and application of data management design, such as data lakes and data warehouses
  • Good understanding of the principles of ML engineering and ML ops
