We currently have an exciting opportunity to bring onboard a Solution Architect to join Royal London Group on a permanent basis in Edinburgh or Nether Alderley.

 

Role purpose

The Solution Architect contributes to the strategy, thought leadership around technical design and operating models, reference architectures and delivery road mapping across selected key domains for Royal London Group Architecture or across multiple domains when deployed to our largest and most complex transformation programmes. 

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Architecture defined and agreed for the programme. Architecture remains coherent and Group wide view taken with close eye on both operating models, total costs of ownership and future technical flex. Programme boards support delivery of the defined Architecture.
  • Domain artefacts and principles defined and maintained to support the IT Strategy and aligned to the Group Strategy and strategic shifts
  • Takes full technical responsibility for all aspects of systems specification and design, ensuring compatibility with enterprise and solutions architectures.
  • Regarded as technical leader and sought out for technical direction and thought leadership including for operating models.
  • Active input to establishing and reviewing strategic Group Architectures for IT, business units and outsourced arrangement,
  • Architectural and design documentation defined for current and future state to inform business and technology functions for agreed areas and a defined transition plan/roadmap required to achieve
  • Regularly monitors and review progress on the IT strategy and plan, updating and evolving as required with the necessary senior stakeholder support.
  • Presentations as appropriate to Group Technology and Change leadership, executive committees and business leaders
  • Identifies and shows insight into the needs of the customer; puts themselves into the customers’ shoes. Takes full view of customer perspective. Drives improvement for customer through design.

 

Essential Criteria

  • Strong Technical design and enterprise-wide architecture understanding and skills
  • Good knowledge of architecture frameworks, trends and initiatives
  • End2End design of cost-effective, innovative, scalable and maintainable enterprise application solutions
  • Strong knowledge of package-based solutions/enterprise application integrations
  • In depth and current knowledge of one or more common application technology stacks (e.g., Microsoft .NET application technology stack)
  • Experience of infrastructure / application technologies within technology domain
  • Understanding of operating and commercial models and processes that can wrap around technologies
  • Experience of close working with third parties and suppliers
  • Strong and proven communication of technical information to all levels of the organisation

 

Desirable Criteria

  • Strong understanding of technology trends
  • Demonstrable knowledge of industry standards related to technology domain
  • Use of architecture tools such as iServer or similar
