We currently have an exciting opportunity to bring onboard a Wintel Technical Specialist to join Royal London Group on permanent contract in Edinburgh or Nether Alderley.


Role purpose

A Technical Specialist role working as part of the Infrastructure Technology Teams to provide technical expertise and guidance specifically across Wintel technologies, including Windows Server 2008-2019, Active Directory, Azure AD, ADFS, MS Exchange\O365, Cloud Technologies, Collaboration Tools, Infra Security, Technical Architect Designs, Storage, Monitoring required for Infrastructure.


Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development of initiatives for GTC and act as a Technical Lead to Infrastructure Administrators and Engineers
  • Work with Infrastructure Managers to define policies and set standards to improve efficiency and working practice within the estate.
  • Operate as technical lead providing technical guidance and direction to Project Managers and Customers for projects and work streams.
  • Provide SME experience in aspects of the RLG estate, co-authoring roadmaps and providing technical guidance to the Architectural function for these.
  • Coach & mentor Infrastructure Administrators and Engineers


Essential Criteria

  • Experience in administration and technical management of
  • Wintel Server Estate
  • Active Directory
  • MS Exchange and other email technologies
  • File Services and replication technologies
  • Integration with Azure and M365 Services
  • Enterprise monitoring solutions
  • Advanced technical troubleshooting capabilities and methodologies
  • Proven ability to produce low level designs to meet complex enterprise-wide infrastructure solutions
  • Industry knowledge and awareness of the direction of new technologies in the Wintel space
  • Willing to work out of hours and be on-call.
  • Senior stakeholder management experience
  • Ability to work autonomously, driving forward continuous improvements to the Royal London IT estate.


Desirable Criteria

  • Technical understanding of security, storage, compute, hardware, application, and virtualisation domains from Wintel perspective
  • Experience of automating infrastructure administration via scripting would be an advantage
  • Understanding of the licensing models used to deliver Wintel capabilities
  • Good mentoring skills
