About the Role 

The Employment Tax Senior Manager role covers UK and Irish employment tax risks relating to the Royal London Group.  This is a permanent part-time opportunity (21 hours per week).

 

Primary areas of responsibility for the successful candidate relate to the effective and efficient management of employment tax risks including oversight and monitoring of tax compliance and reporting activities.

 

With deep technical weight, credibility and commercial awareness, the successful candidate will provide employment tax advice on PAYE and Social Security obligations and related matters including, but not limited to, horizon scanning for regulatory changes, travel policies, staff benefits and expenses policies, tax risks relating to hybrid working, the tax implications of new group initiatives and remuneration arrangements.

The role will involve significant interaction with HR, Payroll teams and relevant Business areas.

The role sits within the Group Tax team in Group Finance and consists of 12 experienced tax professionals working across our three main UK offices.

 

 Key responsibilities

  • Day to day responsibility for Employee Tax advisory and risk management matters for the Royal London Group.
  • Providing oversight of relevant third-party providers.
  • Representing Royal London's views at consultation meetings and industry groups.
  • Acting as primary point of contact for queries from key stakeholders including senior management, boards, committees, third parties and external bodies.
  • Researching complex tax questions using a variety of sources and proposing an approach taking into account Royal London’s Tax Strategy and commercial implications.

 

Criteria

  • Significant experience of employee tax advisory and risk management.
  • Significant experience of engaging with senior stakeholders and dealing with confidential matters
  • Qualified accountant and / or qualified tax professional or qualified by virtue of relevant experience gained in industry, the profession or HMRC.
  • Ability to proactively challenge effectiveness of procedures / controls and manage risks on an ongoing basis.
  • Recognised as subject matter expert and provides insight and interpretation of employee tax matters, delivering complex tax messages in a clear way.
