The purpose of this role is to drive cost behaviours across the Group and seek to develop and provide insight which helps to drive the business in the right direction.

 

The role will bring together cost management and cost allocations and look to improve the interaction between this and value that can be added in this space.

 

Key Accountabilities

  • Leading the Cost Management team: responsible for oversight and challenge of function spend and cost control across Royal London
  • Encourage a culture of cost control across Royal London, emphasising its importance when interacting with business stakeholders and taking personal ownership of driving this change in behaviours across the Group
  • Ensure cost drivers and allocations challenged and appropriate for the relevant purpose
  • Responsible for the insight from the movement of allocations for the business plan and valuation expenses, using this to drive appropriate business behaviour.
  • Drive innovation and future scalability in the Cost Management team
  • Identify areas of improvement across the cost management team, making sure that processes are optimised
  • Act as a day to day contact for senior Finance and Business stakeholders for key cost management issues, in support of the Finance Business Partners
  • Provide financial leadership, relevant insight and challenge in determining and delivering the strategic cost strategies
  • As part of the Business Finance management team, foster a knowledge sharing culture across the teams and wider function whilst shaping and elevating the team to the position of trusted advisor to the Business

 

Skills and Experience

  • Qualified Accountant or Actuary
  • Good communication skills, both face-to-face and report writing including the ability to present complex information clearly and accurately
  • Significant cost control experience including a solid understanding and appreciation of best practice in this area in peer organisations
  • Strong leadership skills and a proven ability to shape, lead and successfully manage teams
  • Proven track record of delivering process improvement and value-add insight

 

Essential Criteria

  • Commercial finance acumen, underpinned by experience in multiple disciplines within a Global finance function
  • Ability to present and articulate complex analysis in a clear, understandable manner
  • Able to create, develop, communicate and implement creative strategies to support the company’s long-term vision
  • Commitment to continuous improvement across processes
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, to Executives, peers, the finance community and non-finance colleagues and experience of influencing at these levels

 

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience in Life insurance is desirable
