Graduates
We have a wide and exciting range of pathways, from functional and cross-functional programmes to structured traineeships.
You’ll complete three eight-month placements across the full Royal London Group. Your placements will depend on the needs of the business at the time, with each assignment structured to build your knowledge and give you exposure to the breadth of our organisation. This means your placement can be in any business area, technical discipline or location. That’s why it’s so important that you’re flexible and open-minded.
You’ll also experience targeted learning and development initiatives, and have the opportunity to work on peer group projects to help you understand our strategy and key priorities. In each new placement you’ll have a dedicated people leader and buddy, as well as a mentor who’ll stay with you throughout your programme.
Functional programmes
Unlike our enterprise leadership programme, your placements will be in a single business area. For example, a functional programme in Brand and Marketing might see you rotate around Brand, Digital, Policy and Communications or any other sub-specialisms. The number or sequence of placements aren’t set and are dependent on the needs of that business area. Functional programmes in other business areas may not rotate at all, being more focused on you developing real depth of technical expertise.
Each programme is subtly different, and you’ll be able to find out more about this in our job adverts.

Actuarial trainees
As an actuarial trainee, you’ll complete several placements across the business. These typically last around 18 months and could see you get involved in everything from valuation (modelling) and pricing, through to assessing risk on climate change, or analysing mergers and acquisition opportunities. You’ll have access to a network of experienced colleagues to help guide you and understand the business.
Alongside each of your placements, you’ll study towards your professional qualification with the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA). Depending on your educational background and any exemptions, this can be done in three years, but for others it can be a longer-term commitment. If you’re based in England, it’s likely this will be delivered as a Level 7 apprenticeship (master’s degree). Either way, you’ll receive best-in-class study support, including a generous study allowance and support with materials, exam costs and more.
How to apply, what to expect and when
Our internship opportunities will be advertised right here on our careers site from early October until mid-November each year. We advertise one role to cover the different pathways, unless we say otherwise.
You should apply online with a short cover letter telling us why you’re perfect for the role and stating your preferred placement. It’d also be great to know if you have any flexibility regarding your placement.
Apply for only one location, so choose wisely. Please note that our asset management business is only based in our London office.
If you’re selected for an interview, you’ll be invited to an in-person assessment day which usually lasts for three hours.
We aim to run these towards the end of January and the start of February.
Once all the assessment days have been completed, we’ll review and match successful candidates with available placements.
We’ll be in touch to offer you a place or share feedback if you weren’t successful. We aim to do this within four weeks of your assessment day.
It's essential that you're able to start your placement in mid-September. This is when your bespoke induction session will be and when you’ll meet your fellow graduates.
