A fantastic opportunity to join our growing Group Data & Analytics Office (GDAO). Responsible for enhancing the effectiveness of how data is used across Royal London. The function provides Data Strategy, Data Management and Analytics capabilities. The Head of Core Data Engineering plays a critical leadership role responsible for the execution of data engineering, data modelling and data testing across data platforms.
You will bring strategic leadership for Data Engineering, Modelling and Testing and collaborate closely with key partners in Group Technology. You will be able to advise senior stakeholders on complex issues and have the ability to build a high-performing team
About the role
- Own the Data Engineering and Data Testing capability within Data Transformation
- Ensure high quality data engineering and data testing practices are adhered to
- Lead, support and develop a team of data engineers, data testers and data modellers to deliver the team’s objectives.
- Develop and drive the long-term data engineering roadmap based on strategic commitments, business objectives, emerging technologies, and regulatory landscape
- Strategic leadership of large-scale data engineering and data testing engagements
- Stay current on industry trends, innovations, and best practices in data
About you
What will you bring to the role?
- Expert understanding of data engineering and data modelling principles and best practice
- Expert understanding of data warehouse testing including data product testing
- Experience of mentoring and coaching more junior team members
- Experience of managing multiple stakeholders
- Good understanding of cloud data engineering technologies including: Spark, Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, Azure DevOps (ADO)
- Experience of a number of other programming languages, such as the SQL, Python etc.
- Experience of applying analytics and data science techniques including the use of predictive modelling, data mining and the analysis of large data sets
- Expertise in the area of data Engineering and application of data management design, such as data lakes and data warehouses
