We are currently looking for a Legal Counsel to join our highly regarded Group Legal Team on a 12mnth FTC basis in London. This role will complement a team of in-house lawyers who provide strategic legal advice, guidance, and support across Royal London’s Asset Management business.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a growing team where you will undertake a range of legal activities, using your knowledge to support the Asset Management division whilst developing key relationships with colleagues across the wider Royal London Group. In this role, you will benefit from working alongside experienced legal professionals who champion development and continuous learning.
About the role

Working alongside a Senior Legal Counsel and other team members to provide proactive strategic legal advice and support to various internal stakeholders on a range of asset management activity, including portfolio management arrangements, distribution and rebate arrangements, non-disclosure agreements, fund related agreements and documentation and trading arrangements.

Drafting, review and negotiation of a varied range of documentation required to support RLAM and its operations, including investment management agreements, distribution agreements, investment fund documentation and material outsourcing agreements.

Advising on the interpretation of key pieces of existing and upcoming laws and regulations which have/may have an impact upon RLAM (including MiFID II, UCITS V, AIFMD, AIFMD II).

Acting as the Legal Lead on various projects, product development and fund launches.

Identification, management and mitigation of associated legal risks, providing proactive and pragmatic solutions.

Working as part of the greater Group Legal team on cross-organisation projects, strategic projects and key regulatory initiatives.

Collaborating with external legal counsel in a cost-effective manner, as appropriate. Taking accountability for obtaining advice and challenging where appropriate, and interpretation and communication of such advice in a commercial and strategic manner.

Undertaking business partnering as delegated by the divisional counsel for specific areas of the Asset Management division.
About you
- A collaborative, commercial and pragmatic asset management solicitor.

Proven experience gained in the Asset Management/Financial Services sector in a leading law firm and/or in-house.

Excellent practical and technical knowledge of legal and regulatory issues affecting the investment management sector.

Proactive and pragmatic, taking ownership of and accountability for the provision of commercial solutions to relevant legal issues, working in a fast-moving environment.

Solid awareness of the principles of corporate governance, FCA/PRA regulations and their impact on the RL Group.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with an ability to deal with stakeholders at all levels of the business.
