Role purpose

As a Medical Underwriter you will ensure our customers consistently receive accurate and fair underwriting decisions with market leading customer service. You will manage and own a case pipeline from application to offer, making accurate decisions whilst balancing cost and risk that drives on improving customer outcomes and experience.


Key responsibilities

  • Support the Group Customer Service strategy in ensuring robust and accurate Underwriting decisions are appropriate to the commercial risk and within personal Underwriting authority levels.
  • Manage and own a case pipeline from application to offer, making accurate decisions whilst balancing cost & risk that drives on improving customer outcomes and experience
  • Act as a technical point of reference, providing underwriting guidance both internally and externally.
  • Adhere to the RLG quality assurance model, ensuring that consistency of approach to underwriting and quality assurance drives quality results protecting the company’s risk exposure.


Essential Criteria

  • A proven track record of underwriting skills both medical and financial.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience working within the Protection product market.
  • Strong understanding of medical terminology with the ability to analyse and interpret complex medical and financial information.
  • Strong communication skill with the ability to influence stakeholders through both written and verbal communications.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships


Desirable Criteria

  • Coaching and training experience.
  • Strong capability in continuous Improvement.
