Apprentices

Our apprenticeships are a great way to earn as you learn. They’re not just for school leavers and there’s a huge range of disciplines and levels to choose from.

While some apprentices join straight from school or college, others are simply looking for a change in their career or returning to the world of work after a break. Some of our own colleagues are embarking on an apprenticeship with us to help advance their career.

We don’t mind what age you are, where you are in your career, or even if you’ve studied something else in the past. We just ask that you’re committed to your own personal development and the completion of our programme.

We offer a wide range of apprenticeships, each with specific requirements. But all our apprentices are expected to be innovative, curious and have excellent communication skills.

What to expect from a Royal London apprenticeship

Mutual benefit

You’ll get exposure to business challenges from day one. Our apprenticeships are designed to develop real depth of skill and technical expertise. Working and studying at the same time means you’ll have plenty of opportunity to put the things you’ve learned to use in a business environment.

In return, we’ll benefit from your new perspective and fresh thinking. We only welcome a small number of apprentices each year, meaning your experience will be unique.

What you'll study

You can study apprenticeships ranging from Level 2 (GCSE) to Level 7 (master’s degree) in England, or Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) 6 (National 5s) to SCQF 11 (master’s degree) in Scotland.

Some apprenticeships are linked to a professional qualification from a recognised body like the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM), Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA) and Chartered Insurance Institute (CII).

The length of study is typically between one and four years.

How you’ll study

You’ll experience structured learning through formal training and self-study. This may be delivered online, in person or hybrid. Either way, we’ll make sure you have excellent lecturers and coaches and best-in-class learning materials.

You’ll be supported and coached by your people leader and experienced colleagues. You’ll also have dedicated ‘off-the-job’ time to work on your apprenticeship. For most people, this means 20% of your normal working week.
