Hannah: Recognition and reward at Royal London

Everyone at Royal London can be recognised, regardless of whether you are customer facing, shaping our strategy or keeping the cogs running in the background. From our recognition scheme that allows colleagues to nominate each other throughout the year, to the annual 'Spirit of Royal London' awards ceremony, recognition is an integral part of our culture.

Hannah shares her experience of being nominated and rewarded for her exceptional contribution in her role.

Personal growth at Royal London

I’m Hannah, a Lead Analyst at Royal London. I work on projects in our digital space which is both interesting and challenging. I joined as an Analyst in January 2019 and have continued to progress within the Analyst pool since then.

I started my career with a car company, gradually working my way from a weekend job on reception to a Group Customer Experience Manager. From there I went on to pursue my next challenge and secured a role with a water company where I went on to become a Continuous Improvement Analyst. During that time, I figured out all the things I loved about the role and in 2018 I was ready to take my next steps. A good friend encouraged me to apply for a role at Royal London and the rest is history.

Joining Royal London was a pivotal point in my life. It is difficult for me to express just how much I’ve grown and developed over the last four years. I’ve been empowered to seize opportunities, getting involved in several great initiatives and have been supported in driving forward my skills and development.

A culture of recognition

One thing about Royal London is that, as a Group, we live and breathe our Purpose and our values. You will be recognised for your hard work. There is a great recognition scheme in place that allows you to thank and nominate your colleagues for making a significant impact and demonstrating our values.

My experience at the 'Spirit of Royal London' Awards

In 2023, I was fortunate to be shortlisted for a ‘We Collaborate’ award by my colleagues. I managed to make it to the final seven which meant I was invited to attend the annual ‘Spirit of Royal London’ awards ceremony. This was an amazing experience for so many reasons, let alone the meal and the party. Our senior leaders were in attendance including our CEO. Being able to chat to them in a relaxed setting was such a brilliant opportunity. It was great to see their support and enthusiasm for the event.

The evening also allowed me to network with colleagues from across Royal London which was invaluable – you never know when you might need a contact especially in the project space. The night was just amazing, such an event and, unbelievably to me at the time, I ended up winning my category! I was absolutely blown away by this especially given the quality of the shortlist. Not only did I win £1000 in vouchers, but it gave me such a confidence boost. I felt recognised for all my hard work and appreciated for being good at what I do. It was such an awesome feeling and one I took back to work with me and into everything I did going forward. I felt completely refreshed and re-motivated.

This year I’ve had the opportunity to be involved in the awards ceremony again as a judge. It’s been an incredibly rewarding experience and shown how important and special the recognition scheme is at Royal London.

I think every workplace has its challenges but Royal London is a place where you are genuinely recognised for the work you do, made to feel valued and given every opportunity to shine.
