We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Software Engineer in Web Development to join our dynamic team at Royal London. In this role, you will play a crucial part in providing deep technical expertise to help our teams design, develop, test, implement and support efficient solutions that meet business and customer requirements.
This role is focussed on our Long Term Savings (Pensions) Application stack and forms part of the Long Term Savings value stream.
Our Chief Operating Office (COO) works across Royal London to help deliver the Group’s strategic ambitions. We work in partnership to deliver operational excellence, drive innovation, enhance customer experience, and protect our business from threats impacting our industry.

About the role
- This is a developer role for a Front-end portal application. Enterprise web development experience with Angular is essential.
- A Senior Software Engineer must be able to design & develop complex solutions within their own area of technical expertise. Advance documentation of the design would be to agreed standards.
- A Senior Software Engineer would be expected to carry out impact assessments of complex changes to existing applications.
- A Senior Software Engineer’s code would meet Group standards, guidelines and quality gates for the given technology.
- A Senior Software Engineer would work closely with the test team to ensure their code is thoroughly tested so that issues are identified as early as possible.
- A Senior Software Engineer would safely implement solutions to production.
- A Senior Software Engineer would collaborate closely with other members of the team.
- A Senior Software Engineer would be expected to contribute to the RL software development practice by sharing their ideas and experience.
- A Senior Software Engineer would participate in code reviews of others’ work.
About you
- Experience with Angular is essential.
- Experience in one or more programming languages including JavaScript or TypeScript is essential.
- Experience with automated testing frameworks is preferred.
- Experience of the full software development lifecycle and agile development practices is preferred.
- Experience of Azure DevOps & CI/CD pipelines & Microsoft 365 is an advantage.
- Ability to work without supervision is essential.
- Ability to work as part of a team is essential.
- An enthusiasm to continue to develop one’s own technical skills in ever emerging technology stacks is essential.
