At Royal London, our People function plays a critical role in enabling strong, consistent leadership across the business. We are seeking an experienced People Consultant to provide high‑quality, professional advice, guidance and coaching to People Leaders across the organisation.
This role sits within our People Leader Advice team, supporting the delivery of our People Strategy by enabling leaders to fulfil their people management responsibilities effectively, confidently and in line with our values, policies and legal obligations.
You will contribute to the People Leader advisory service by providing expert advice and people‑leader coaching across the full employee lifecycle. Acting as a trusted advisor, you will support People Leaders on complex and escalated people matters, building capability, driving consistency and managing organisational risk.
Key responsibilities
Employee Relations and case management
- Using your extensive employment law knowledge and experience, lead and advise on complex and escalated ER cases, including disciplinary, grievance, capability, sickness and absence, redundancy, TUPE and settlement agreements.
- Provide pragmatic, risk‑assessed and commercially sound recommendations aligned to organisational risk appetite
- Manage employment tribunal activity , working closely with Legal and external advisors to develop case strategy, manage cost and risk effectively.
People Leader advice and coaching
- Provide professional coaching, guidance and challenge to People Leaders to support effective people management and decision‑making.
- Enable leaders to take ownership of performance, development, wellbeing, talent and succession conversations.
- Reinforce the People Team operating model and promote effective use of People services and tools.
Policy and subject matter expertise
- Act as a subject matter expert on people policies, supporting their development, governance, implementation and ongoing effectiveness.
- Ensure policies remain compliant with evolving employment legislation and operationally practical for People Leaders.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in policy and process, informed by trends and leader feedback.
Capability building and service excellence
- Develop and embed People Leader toolkits and upskilling materials to improve leadership capability and drive consistent outcomes.
- Build strong relationships across the business and People function to identify trends, inform improvements and enhance service delivery.
- Contribute to defined workstreams and change activity in partnership with People Partners and Centres of Excellence.
Leadership, culture and risk
- Support the Head of Leader Advice in maintaining quality, consistency and service standards across the advisory team.
- Champion Royal London’s culture and values in every interaction.
- Proactively identify, assess and manage people‑related risks within the Group Risk Framework.
What you’ll bring
- Strong technical expertise in employment law and people policy.
- A background in Financial Services or Regulated environments
- Significant experience advising on complex cases within a customer‑focused advisory or ER environment.
- Credible consultancy and coaching skills, with the confidence to influence and challenge senior stakeholders.
- A pragmatic, commercial mindset and strong judgement, balancing fairness, consistency and business outcomes.
- Excellent communication, organisation and stakeholder management skills.
