Shape decisions. Challenge effectively. Improve customer outcomes.
At Royal London, Group Risk & Compliance plays a critical role in supporting the business to deliver good customer outcomes and meet its FCA regulatory obligations.
Our Compliance Advisory team sits at the heart of this providing proactive guidance and support, second-line oversight, constructive challenge, and pragmatic regulatory advice across business activity and strategic programmes.
We’re looking for an experienced, commercially aware Compliance Advisory professional who can operate as a trusted partner to the business while maintaining appropriate independence.
About the role
You will operate as a true second-line advisor, influencing key decisions and shaping how regulatory risk is managed.
- Provide clear, pragmatic regulatory advice across change initiatives and BAU activity (e.g. customer communications, pensions, protection, digital delivery)
- Actively challenge the business to ensure regulatory risks are accurately identified, understood and mitigated
- Partner with senior stakeholders, building credible and influential relationships whilst maintaining independence
- Support governance and decision-making, producing high-quality, insight-led reporting for senior forums (e.g. SteerCo, committees)
- Contribute to the Regulatory Risk Universe, ensuring risks are well-defined and aligned to current regulatory expectations
- Provide second-line oversight on customer outcomes, including alignment with Consumer Duty
- Translate complex regulatory requirements (e.g. FCA, TPR) into practical, proportionate actions
- Stay close to regulatory change and articulate clear business impacts and risk implications
About you
We’re looking for someone who can operate with credibility at all levels, balancing oversight & challenge with good commercial awareness.
- Proven experience in a Compliance Advisory / Risk Advisory (second line) role within Financial Services
- Strong working knowledge of FCA regulation, ideally across Life & Pensions
- Experience providing constructive challenge to senior stakeholders, not just guidance
- Ability to interpret regulation and apply it in a practical, outcome-focused way (not just theoretical knowledge)
- Strong understanding of customer outcomes and Consumer Duty expectations
- Experience supporting or reviewing strategic change initiatives or programmes
- Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to produce concise, governance-ready papers and executive summaries
- Confidence managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced, evolving environment
