Closing date: 9th November 2026
We have an exciting opportunity for a Demographic Risk Analyst to join our actuarial team, starting in September 2027.
This role is particularly suited to graduates and professionals with a strong interest in longevity, population health and demographic trends.
You'll help develop and apply demographic and mortality assumptions used in bulk purchase annuity pricing, supporting well-informed business decisions that contribute to strong customer outcomes and Royal London's long-term financial resilience.
Working alongside specialists in Pricing and Insurance Risk, you'll build expertise in how people live longer, healthier lives and what that means for the pensions and insurance industry.
Career development
This role offers the opportunity to develop as a demographic risk specialist within a growing actuarial function. For candidates who wish to pursue a professional actuarial qualification, there will also be an opportunity in the future to apply to join our Actuarial Trainee Programme.
Actuarial Trainees receive support towards Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA) qualifications, including study materials, study leave and professional development support. The programme also provides the opportunity to rotate across different actuarial teams and develop a broader understanding of the business. Any transition to the programme would be subject to the relevant recruitment and assessment processes.
About the role
- Support the production and review of demographic assumptions, including mortality, marital status and spouse information, for bulk purchase annuity pricing
- Prepare, validate and analyse member and scheme data, identifying gaps, inconsistencies and areas requiring further investigation
- Use established actuarial models and tools to produce demographic, mortality and longevity stress outputs
- Carry out checks on model inputs and outputs, maintaining clear evidence and documentation in line with agreed controls
- Explain analysis clearly and work with colleagues in Pricing and Insurance Risk to resolve queries and support decision-making
- Contribute to improvements in tools, processes and guidance, sharing learning and supporting a strong risk and control culture.
About you
- A degree, or equivalent qualification, in a relevant discipline such as Medical Statistics, Biology, Mathematical Biology, Life Sciences, Biostatistics, Bioinformatics, Biomedical Science, Demography, Population Studies, Population Health, Public Health, Health Data Science or Genetics is desirable. We also welcome applications from candidates with other degrees who can demonstrate a strong interest in longevity and demographic modelling.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills, with the ability to work accurately with detailed data
- Confidence using Microsoft Excel and an interest in developing experience with actuarial models and analytical tools
- A logical, curious approach to problem-solving and the confidence to question unusual or inconsistent results
- Good organisation and attention to detail, with the ability to manage priorities and maintain clear records
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, with a collaborative approach to working with different teams
- An interest in longevity, mortality research, population trends, actuarial science or insurance risk, together with the motivation to build specialist expertise in demographic risk.
If you feel you’d be a great fit for Royal London but don’t meet every requirement, we’d still love to hear from you. Research shows some candidates are less likely to apply unless they meet 100% of the criteria - if you meet most requirements and are keen to learn, we encourage you to apply.
