Group Employment Lawyer

Contract type: Permanent

We’re looking for an experienced Employment Lawyer to join our Group Legal team at Royal London. Acting as a trusted advisor to our Group People function, you’ll play a key role in shaping and delivering strategic employment law support across the business.

 

This is an exciting opportunity to work closely with senior stakeholders, including the Group People Director, on high-impact projects and business-critical matters. As a modern mutual, Royal London is Purpose led and you’ll contribute to enabling the Group to achieve its Purpose through clear, commercial and pragmatic legal advice.

 

About the role

  • This is a senior role, to act as the legal advisor to the Group People Team, partnering on contentious matters, strategic initiatives, transformation and organisational change, as well as policy questions and other business as usual activity.
  • Provide expert employment law advice on contentious and non-contentious matters, including corporate and commercial transactions, complex grievances and employment tribunal claims.
  • Support key business projects, independently leading on employment-related aspects and delivering pragmatic solutions.
  • Manage and interpret external legal advice, ensuring it is commercially relevant, cost effective and provides clear and actionable guidance.
  • Build strong relationships with senior stakeholders across the Group, influencing at all levels and acting as a trusted business partner.
  • Drive continuous improvement in legal processes, tools and knowledge sharing within the team.
  • Exposure to complex and fast paced work, operating within the wider Group Legal team, composed of commercial, regulatory, pensions and corporate lawyers and reporting into the Legal Director.

About you

  • Qualified employment lawyer with proven ability to advise independently on complex contentious and non-contentious employment matters in a commercial and solutions-focused way.
  • Experience leading on projects and working collaboratively with a range of stakeholders in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships at senior level.
  • Confident drafting, negotiation and contract management experience.
  • Experience in financial services sector or another regulated environment and in-house exposure are desirable.
  • Highly resilient, proactive and adaptable, with excellent judgement and emotional intelligence.
